How can we help?
Answers to common questions about WhereWe. You’ll find the basics in the app too, under Settings, Help.
Getting started
How do I add a place?
Tap the + button on the map, then search for a place or drop a pin. Choose Want to go or Been there, pick a category, and save. You can add notes, photos and links whenever you like.
What do the pin colors mean?
Coral pins are places you want to go. Teal pins are places you’ve already been. Use the filter at the top of the map to show one or both.
How do I switch between maps?
Tap the map’s name at the top left of the Map screen, then pick any map you’re on.
Can I change the language or theme?
Yes. Open Settings, then Language, to switch between English, Hebrew, Spanish, French, Italian, German, Portuguese and Russian. City and country names switch too. Map theme changes the app’s colors; themes are part of WhereWe Pro.
Is WhereWe on Android?
Not yet. WhereWe is an iPhone app. Anyone can open a public map in a web browser on any device, though, with no app or account.
Sharing with your people
Can I copy places from one of my maps to another?
Yes. In the List tab, tap Select, choose the places, and tap Add to another map. Their notes, links and photos come along. Ratings don’t, because a score is a place’s position in its own map’s ranking. The originals stay where they are.
Can WhereWe remind me when I’m near a place?
Yes. Turn on Nearby reminders in Settings and your iPhone lets you know when you’re close to a place on your Want list. It needs Always location access. The watching happens on your iPhone, and your location is never sent to us.
Instagram and TikTok imports
How do I save places from Instagram or TikTok?
On a post in Instagram or TikTok, tap Share and choose WhereWe. Or, in WhereWe, tap + and then Import from a link, and paste the post’s link. WhereWe reads the post and drafts a pin for each place it finds. Nothing is added until you review it.
Where do imported places go?
New imports wait in the Inbox tab, marked with a badge. Open one to check the details, then add its places to one map or to several at once.
How does WhereWe find places in a post?
It reads the post’s caption and location tag for place names, then looks them up on the map. One post can give you up to 10 places. If a post doesn’t name its places, WhereWe may not find anything, so posts that name their spots work best. It works with public posts.
How many AI imports do I get?
Free accounts get 5 AI imports once, when you sign up; they don’t refill. When a friend joins with your invite code, you each get 3 more, and following WhereWe on Instagram adds one. WhereWe Pro includes up to 500 AI imports a month, and at most 100 in one day.
Ratings, stats and your Story
How do ratings and rankings work?
When you’ve been somewhere, say how it felt: you liked it, it was fine, or you didn’t like it. Then pick between it and a few places you’ve already rated. WhereWe turns your answers into a ranking and a score out of 10, and your favorite always scores a 10. Scores can shift a little as you rate more places, because they’re measured against a longer list.
How do stats and the year in review work?
Your travel stats count the countries, cities and continents you’ve been to and show them on a globe you can spin. From there, play your Story: a flight across your map, for one year or all time, ending in a recap you can share.
Public maps
What is a public map?
A map its owner has published, so anyone with the link can see it, in the app or in a web browser, without an account. Every place opens in Apple Maps or Google Maps. The owner picks the title, description and cover photo, and whether to show notes and photos. A public map never shows who else is on it or who added each place.
How do I publish a map?
Open a map you own, tap Share, and choose Public link. Add a title and a description, choose what visitors see, and share the link. You’ll need a username and a verified account. You can change what’s shown, or unpublish the map, at any time. On a shared map, only the owner can publish, and the places everyone added are included.
Will my public map show up in search?
Only if you ask. A public map is link-only at first. Turn on List in search to have it appear in Explore; it needs at least 5 places, and a person at WhereWe approves it first. Public pages are ordinary web pages, so search engines like Google may still find a map that someone has linked to.
What is my @username for?
Every account has a unique @username. It’s part of your links, like wherewe.net/@yourname, and it’s on your public profile with your display name, a short bio and your Instagram and TikTok if you add them. People on your shared maps still see your display name. You can change your username twice in any 14 days, and old links lead to the new one. Your display name can change at any time.
Can I sell a map?
Not yet. Selling maps is coming in a later version of the app. Publishing a map and sharing its link are free.
Saving maps
How do I save someone else’s map?
Open the map in WhereWe and tap Save to my maps; on the web, tap Save this map in WhereWe. Pick a new map or one you already have. The places arrive as Want, each with a note saying which map it came from and a link back. Places already on your map are skipped. A new map counts toward the free limit of 2 maps.
Can I save just some of the places?
Yes. Tap Choose places, tick the ones you want, or Select all, then save them to any of your maps.
Can I buy a map?
Not yet. Every public map on WhereWe is free to open and save. Paid maps are coming in a later version of the app.
How do I get a refund?
Subscriptions go through Apple, so refunds do too. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com; Apple decides. To cancel Pro, open your iPhone’s Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions.
How do I report a map or block someone?
In the app, tap the ⋯ menu on a map or profile and choose Report or Block. On the web, use the Report this map link at the bottom of any public map page, or email support@wherewe.net with a link. We never tell anyone who reported them, and a map that several people report is hidden until we’ve looked at it. Blocking keeps a person’s maps and profile out of your Explore and search; you can unblock them in Settings.
Pro, privacy and your account
Is WhereWe free, and what does Pro add?
WhereWe is free to download and use, with up to 2 maps, maps shared by up to 4 people, 5 AI imports, rankings, stats, your Story and public maps. WhereWe Pro is a monthly or yearly subscription that adds unlimited maps, maps of 5 to 8 people, up to 500 AI imports a month, a short AI description for each imported place, and custom color themes.
Who can see my maps?
Only the people on them. Maps stay private unless their owner publishes one, and then only the parts they choose. Your @username and profile are public; your email address and phone number never are. We don’t sell your data or use it for ads. The Privacy Policy has the details.
How do I delete my account?
Open Settings, then Edit Account, then Delete Account, and confirm it’s you. This deletes the maps only you were on, your profile, your public maps and your sign-in, and it can’t be undone. Maps you share with others stay with them, and the member who joined first becomes the owner.
In the app, you can replay the intro any time: Settings, Help, Take the tour again.
